Christmas market in Bad Wimpfen

Pure romance!

Bad Wimpfen is one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany. As early as 1487, Emperor Friedrich III awarded the then imperial city of Wimpfen the privilege of holding a market before Christmas (Katharinenmarkt).

The unique atmosphere of the Wimpfener Kaiserpfalz, the countless illuminated fir trees and the atmospheric old town make the Old German Christmas Market in Bad Wimpfen one of the most beautiful markets in the country.

The Blue Tower, the Red Tower, the city skyline and some half-timbered houses in the market area are adorned with countless chains of lights and ensure a unique romantic experience.

In the medieval streets, around 120 stalls sell high-quality handicrafts on the first three Advent weekends for the upcoming celebration - unlike in many large cities, in which the Christmas market has since developed into a big fair.

You shouldn't miss the European Village in Wormser Hof.

Every year a different country presents delicacies and handicrafts there. In 2020 visitors to the market would have been able to look forward to hand-made items from the Tyrol region. Unfortunately this Christmas market will not take place in 2020 due to the corona pandemic.

The supporting program is also remarkable: concerts, night watchman tours and Wimpfen stories accompany the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle in the spa town on the Neckar.

The Christ Child and St. Nicholas, accompanied by mercenaries in original costumes, distribute small gifts to the children; St. Nicholas tells Christmas stories in the large armchair in the town hall foyer; in the tithe barn, the Kasperle delights all guests with fun games in the puppet theatre and the crib exhibition in the old hospital invites you to visit.

The visitors stroll through the romantic wintry atmosphere of the lovingly decorated old town and listen to the tower blowers playing the traditional chorales from the blue tower, which is illuminated for Christmas.
